Sword Lender Background for Cairn

Sword Lender

There's hardly a job you won't take on as long as the coin is right whether it's stalking the wilds in search of your quarry, moving contraband between villages in the dead of night, or guiding an expedition deep into the Duskweald.

Starting Gear

d6 What was your last job?
1 To destroy a rotslug nest from an underground ruin before it got out-of-hand. Take a Bullseye Lantern and an Oil Can (6 uses).
3 To hunt down a blight beast that had attacked a supply caravan. Take a Longbow (bulky) and silver-tipped arrows (3 uses. Attacks against abominations and undead are enhanced).
3 To track and rescue a pair of young siblings who had wandered too far into the Duskweald. Take a Signal Horn and extra Rations (3 uses).
4 To lay an ambush on a wealthy noble's caravan. Take a Crossbow and Azure Fire Powder (3 uses) that will cause flames to turn blue when thrown into a fire.
5 To drive a death cult out of an abandoned village on the border of the Duskweald. Take a pouch of Spore Bombs (3 uses). They cause uncontrollable coughing for a short time.
6 To patrol the paths along the edge of the Duskweald before Winter set in. You have contacts in most border villages willing to provide aid, food, or even weapons.

d6 What curiosity have you come across in your travels?
1 A black pebble that, when held in front of a person’s eyes, has a chance of bewitching that person for a short time (Save vs WIL to resist). The person so hexed will answer 3 questions truthfully.
2 A copper ring that grows warm when serpents are nearby.
3 A bone pipe incised with strange runic symbols. Anyone who smokes from it can project their vision up to 50’ from their body for a short while but also take a Fatigue.
4 A brass canister that holds some sort of tacky resin (6 + 1d4 uses). Objects glued together with it are inseparable for 1 hour before the resin becomes inert and loses it’s hold.
5 A silver skeleton key that fits in most locks and has a chance of opening them. Roll a d6: on a 1 the key melts and is unable to be removed from the lock, otherwise the lock opens successfully.
6 A small, ornate clay urn that continuously emits white smoke when opened, despite there being nothing inside.
